The ways to get rid of bad breath

nieświeży oddechThe bad breath is one of the most unpleasant things which might happen to us. However, we’re not talking about the regular improper oral hygiene and its consequences, but about a very common ailment – halitosis. About 30 – 45% of the society suffers from it. These are some very high numbers, but, just like in case of other diseases, we can effectively treat it.

The bad breath is an aftereffect of the food remains being digested by the bacteria in our mouths. Their appearance is natural, but sometimes the volatile sulfur compounds have a much more intense smell than they should. These bacteria are located in the bottom parts of our tongue and throat.

How does the halitosis start?

This ailment might occur in two cases: thanks to the external and internal factors. In case of the former, halitosis might be caused by a specific diet (consuming spicy foods often, along with the foods containing garlic, onion, tuna or spices bearing strong smell) or a slimming diet along with smoking and drinking alcohol frequently. If we assume that one of these things is causing our bad breath, we should eliminate them from our daily menu. If we won’t notice any difference after 2 to 3 weeks, seeing our doctor or a dentist might be recommended. We will get carefully examined in order to see if we’re suffering from any unpleasant diseases which cause bad breath.

We can distinguish the internal factors behind halitosis:

  • Gum/periodontium inflammations
  • Dry mouth
  • Dentures (and improper care of these)
  • Sinus and throat infections or tonsillitis
  • Systemic diseases

That’s why taking care of the core problem is the only way to get rid of the unpleasant smell coming from our mouth for good. Until then, it’s important to take a proper and precise care of our oral cavity.

Farewell, bad breath!

płyn do płukania ustIn order to get rid of the bad breath, we usually need to simply follow the few basic rules of daily oral hygiene. The most important ones are:

  • Buying a specialized toothbrush
  • Using a toothpaste containing triclosan (it’s got antibacterial properties)
  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Cleaning the tongue and daily flossing of interdental surfaces
  • Using a mouthwash (the ones containing alcohol are recommended)
  • Visiting your dentist twice a year

This will certainly nullify the problem, with taking care of the proper, healthy diet being an additional help. A bad breath isn’t accepted anywhere after all – especially when it comes to interacting with our friends and family. It’s worth taking a good care of ourselves.
